    Thoughts on '08 Sleepers

I'm finding that some really good names are available at the end of drafts. This rings true at nearly every position. Let some clown take David Weathers because he recognizes his name while you nab CJ Wilson or Brandon Lyons. Also, it seems like SS is the new second base- in terms of position scarcity- I've been able to find quality second baseman late- i.e. Kelly Johnson while truly productive SS's seem to die out after the Renteria spot. What are your thoughts on '08 sleepers like Billy Butley, Votto, Michael Bourne? Everyone always has a guy they love- I have a fantasy man crush on James Loney and Mark Reynolds for example. What do you think?

I have to agree with you. When I did my first draft a couple weeks ago I got Ellsbury in Rd 22, Bourne in 23, Votto in 24 and Soto in 25. Couldnt have been happier, none of them are currntly starting on my team and if one of them does break out, good for me. In the last two draft I did they all went in rounds 12-15. Way to early in my opinion, these guys are counting on them to be consistent contributers and none of them have proven anything. I've now had to redo my sleepers because I'm not jumping on sleppers that early.

I think Adam Jones is going to have a big year.

Manny Parra is definitely a good pick, assuming he gets a shot at the Brewers' rotation.  With Capuano needing TJ surgery, it's not out of the question.

I agree that Manny Parra is a good sleeper pick.  With Capuano out for the year, and a rotation that contains injury risks like Ben Sheets and Yovanni Gallardo, I think Parra will get a shot as a starter for the Brewers this season and has the potential to surprise a few people in 08.

Once Cameron Maybin comes up I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up good power/ speed numbers although the Ks will be troublesome. I really like Homer Bailey now. I never liked his hype from the past couple years, but now I think that everyone has gotten over him because of Cueto and Volquez, he will surprise. He was injured last year when he pitched, and if he can stay healthy he should be a lot better when he eventually gets called up. My third pick is Jair Jurrjens, who is off to a solid start this year. As the year continues, I think he will continue to mature, and it looks like he will be starting all year (originally he could have been in AAA) for the Braves, who should provide him with plenty of run support.
