"Old School, New School" with Giants 101 -- NEW CONTEST!!

Attention all!

After so much drama with Michael Strahan's retirement and now Plaxico Buress' holdout, we here at Giants 101 thought that it was time to take a quick break from our regularly scheduled programming to bring you the GIANTS 101 "Old School, New School" MINI-FRIDGE GIVEAWAY!!!

With such a dedicated group of smart, funny and intelligent Giants fans, how could we pass up an opportunity to show our appreciation for you...and what better way to reward a group of sports fans than to offer them a shot at a new, sweet-lookin' mini-fridge.  We hope you're excited...we are!

Old School, New School Contest

That's right, over the next two weeks, we'll be giving you, the best New York Giants fans in the world, the chance to walk away with a brand-new, beautiful mini-fridge courtesy of Pepsi Co.  First, a little bit about this pretty cool promotion from Pepsi:

"Pepsi has just launched Old School, New School, where you can use codes on Mountain Dew and AMP products to redeem prizes such as cars, kicks, and gaming systems.  To celebrate, we have teamed up with Pepsi to give away some great prizes, including a Mountain Dew Mini-Fridge."

For more information on Pepsi's specific promotion, check out the Old School, New School site.

How to Play the GIANTS 101 "OLD SCHOOL, NEW SCHOOL" Contest:

In keeping up with the "Old School, New School" theme, we writers came up with the following guidelines as to how you can win this brand spankin' new mini-fridge.  Here's the deal.

  • Think up your favorite "old school" New York Giants player (anyone who is not on the team now).   Then think of your favorite "new school" New York Giants player (anyone currently on the team).
  • Then write up, between 250-500 words, why you think your "old school" and "new school" Giants are the best ones!  That's it...it's THAT easy!
  • We realize that many of you might pick the same players, so it will be up to you to make the most compelling argument.  The best argument wins.
  • All entries MUST BE EMAILED to Giants101OldSchoolNewSchool@gmail.com.   Please DO NOT submit your entries in the comments section.  However, feel free to ask questions or let us know you submitted an entry in the comments section!
  • This contest is only open to U.S. residents.  Apologies to our international readers.
  • Entries must be submitted between June 12 - 27, 2008
  • No, Giants 101 writers are no eligible...you're on your own to find a place to put your six-packs of be...Pepsi (however, if you used to be a writer for Giants 101 but are no longer, you are eligible).

You're all experts on the Giants, so pick out your favorite old Giant and your favorite new Giant and tell us why they are the best.  So show us what ya got.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask them in the comments section of this post!

Good luck to you all and we look forward to picking our winner and sharing it with the whole Giants 101 community!

Note:

Please take a minute to Digg, Bark and Hype this contest!  Give fellow Giants fans a chance to win, while helping to promote Giants 101.

Well I write for the site, and do spot stuff whenever Dan is feeling lazy. And I don't even get paid for those articles.

Come on Benton, you're breaking my balls here man.. lol

I would say that makes the cut now, hahaha.  But you need about 239 more words if you wanna place to stash your drinks during Giants games.

I'd say anyone not under the G101 author box can enter.  So have at it, everyone.

And tell your friends and family!  Spread this contest around!

Why do you come to this site because all you ever do is complain about everything? If you don't like anything on here, go somewhere else. They didn't have to have a prize giveaway and you don't have to read their articles or post on this site. No one on here will miss you when you are gone because you have never contributed anything decent on this site.

i come to this site jsut to irritate you.

but seriously...the fridge is ugly...you cannot deny that.  can i not speak the truth.  and you failed to notice my encouraging words when i said "nice effort guys."  i thought that would quell the faint of heart readers like yourself.

and i think i will be missed if i post no longer...who would you ridicule and get all defensive towards if i was gone?  haha.

The writers on this site need to start paying more attention, and putting up more stuff, because the level of ignorance and foolishness is escalating lately. Frankly, it's becoming a lot less interesting than it used to be. Maybe it's the dead zone between the draft and the pre-season, but the IQ of Giants 101 is dropping, and I say that as a big fan. Sorry guys, but you need to step it up. The world is a competitive place and if you don't watch out someone will take your lunch money. I love what you guys have done in the past, but lately this is much less a "must-see" blog. I think the commentary and posts on a few other sites is catching up fast. And you are allowing the ignoramuses to become a little too influential in regard to the tone of Giants 101.

Fanof55 - Because of a contest?  Excuse us for trying to offer up something to you guys.

And excuse us for all having jobs outside of G101.  If we could devote eight hours a day each to this site, we gladly would.

Do you know why other sites are catching up?  Because either it's their full time job or people donate money to keep it running.

It's rather difficult when you make absolutely no profit and have to pay the bills elsewhere.

I think the disrespect that we're getting around here lately is completely uncalled for.  These guys put in hard work every single day and have gotten nothing but nonsense for it.

This is also one of the few Giants sites (BBI being the only other) that gets new material every single day year round.

fanfor55years said:

Dan, no, not because of the contest. I have no problem with that. Because of the problems caused by ignorant posters that aren't counteracted by the writers' getting some new stuff up in order to move forward.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a BIG fan of the site. But I think you need to watch your back. As Satchel Page said, "Something may be catching up".

Instead of being righteously defensive, I would sit back and wonder why a long-time participant is critiquing you for the first and only time.

gmen--er said:

i agree with Dan on this one (wow, really?).  not much going on to report anyways...if you liek those other sites so much. go there! (right, jcrown00?)

these sites are driven by individuals that do this for the fun of it, and to talk sports with fans of their own favorite team.  you cannot blame this on the writers...the wheel need not be reinvented.  wait till training camp and wait till the seaosn..i am sure all the sites will have something up.

Fanof55 - If we're all working, there's nothing we can do anyway.  Paying the bills and getting through school (those who are in it) come first to the writers.  That's just all there is to it.

If someone else is catching up, then so be it.  I don't want to be a monopoly anyway.  All solid Giants-related material is more than welcome.

Sorry you're feeling that way.  Id love to hear some more specific criticisms that you have so that we may more effectively rebuild G101 to your standards and those of the people you speak for.

Sean, no need for email. Let me make this clear: I have loved this site. My only real gripe is that it seems in the past when the writers saw some abusive or really moronic posts by guys who had already proved they had no credibility they would come up with some news of some sort to just change the subject and move on. That hasn't happened as often of late. I understand that you guys are doing this out of passion and without much compensation, but I still think you should monitor it and be prepared to move the conversation "down the road" when you see it headed toward dead ends.

I stopped looking at any political blogs (except those on Slate.com) a long time ago because I was horrified at the level of hate, ignorance and willing disregard for rationality or truth that seems to rule most of them (and makes one wonder about the underbelly of this society). Of late it seems that a little of that is creeping into sports blogs. In order to keep Giants 101 as good as it has been (and I believe it has been the best site in regard to the Giants from Day 1, partly thanks to all you writers and partly thanks to the population of intelligent posters that you had attracted, almost all of whom had managed to respectfully disagree while maintaining a level of civility that was nice to see) I think you need to watch closely and make sure that the site doesn't get degraded. If the "bad guys" take over you will see some of the better posters melt away, and they are as much of your "franchise" as are the writers. That's the way blogs work, as you well know.

Ok, I hear ya man...and agree.  And yeah, you as well as a few of the other "staple" G101 readers have always been respectful, helpful (in contributing to interesting dialogue) and fun.  But as always, there will be the rotten eggs.

I hear what you're saying though and we'll be doing our best to make it better.

Thanks man.

We have some solid entries so far so it seems as though many of you are remaining quiet and are excited or you're just trying to act like you don't want a cool FREE mini-fridge.

In any case, thanks to all of you who submitted your entries...these are very fun to read and look like a good bit of time was put into them.

We welcome more entries though....keep 'em comin!
