NOTES: Blank spaces showcase
driver was not in race
This table looks at only the last six races at this track,
drivers that have a start, and is also sorted by average finish. |
A look at the data …
Just by looking at the winners list you can see a few things. Jimmy Johnson has been dominating at the winning the pas three races at this track. He can easily pull another top ten, but I do not think he will win four in a row.
Jeff Gordon has the most wins and can easily pull off another one at this track.
A look at the top tens data shows that no one can really keep up with the Hendrick cars. They have almost twice as many as the nearest competitor. With Dale Jr. they could easily get three drivers in the top ten this week.
A look at the average finish data shows Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson fully destroying the field with an average finish under 3.0 for the past six races.
One name not on the wins list, but someone to also look at is Kyle Busch. His average finish in the past 5 races is only 8. He has the team and car to pull off a win.
2 solid starts in two races for Juan Pablo Montoya with an average finish of 12. I think he can be a solid pick as well.
Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton, and Kasey Kahne all do not like the track that much over the past six races, but are at the top of the point standings at this point of time.
Not in the included in the above data …
If we looked at both qualifying data along with finish data only Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, Jimmy Johnson, and Tony Stewart do great at both.
I do not think where you qualify matters much for this race when it comes to who finishes in the top ten.
The one big thing is that Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordon have not started off hot this year. I think Jeff Gordon can get back to his top five finishing ways at Martinsville though.
This may not help you pick your drivers but after five races into a season since they have moved to a chase format the data shows that over 70% of the chase field has already been placed.
