He's got about 10 months or so for recovery until the Masters next year. He will be back.

Also, I think Tiger made the right decision. It paid off. He's still chasing Jack, of course. So now he's got 14 majors instead of 13 and is within a grand slam of catching him.

Also Billy, to answer your question; I don't think anyone will "run away" with things in Tiger's absence. That's why everyone needs to read my stuff to figure out who to pick week to week :). (In all seriousness, there are legitimately 25 guys who will benefit from this development, and some new-ish names are going to step forward and make noise.

Nice piece ! I love watching Tiger play and am thankful that I have been able to witness his best moments in my lifetime.

It's sad that he'll have to miss the rest of the season. I'm not a huge follower of golf, but that playoff was very exciting. I'm not sure if I agree with a lot of the pundits who think it was worth him playing. Sure he won, but he gave up the chance to win even more.

Hopefully he comes back strong next season because golf is a lot more boring when Tiger isn't in it. You can either love him or hate him, but it's clear that Tiger draws people to golf. I wonder who'll wind up running away with the season now that Tiger won't be on the prowl heh.

Tommy...not to be too critcal, but you need to get ur sh*t together and facts straight before you write and post. I have seen past mistakes, but your comment about Kenny Perry...discount him and no shot at the U.S. Open...oops. Kenny Perry is not playing in the U.S. Open...he did not even try to go through sectionals to qualify. This has been widely known.

Weir was terrible. To be honest, I didn't notice Ames at any point during the tournament; but for a former champ like Weir, who should know his way around the course, he came up really small. Sad thing is, I really thought he was going to be in that "next" group of stars, but now I fear he's going to join Sergio in the land of the irrelevant. We can all learn something from this: Don't always believe the hype.

Can you add Mike Weir and Stephen Ames to the "Busts" list? I sure will. Both of them couldn't take advantage of a perfect day on Saturday when others were pushing 70 or better. Watching them play was an exercise in frustration!

I've given up on Garcia - he'll win a major when it's completely anti-climatic.

Thanks for reading! It's easy to forget there are 150+ players at any given time active on the PGA Tour. Or, Tiger + 149, however you want to think of it.

You do a great job on these features, Tommy. It definitely helps to know that there are more golfers on the PGA Tour than the four or five guys you always hear about. Keep up the good work, and keep educating those of us who only follow golf casually. ;-)

I considered Durant, but I really liked Elkington's numbers, they really stood out for me. That was actually a tough choice. As far as Davis Love, he is DONE from what I can tell. He's in Duval territory in terms of performance and just isn't competitive any more. I've got zero confidence that he can make a cut, any cut, never mind finishing in the money. That's why Love wasn't considered.

I do like your sleepers and I tend to agree with the experience Have a definite edge this week. And with a lot of big names not entered does make for a great opportunity for once great players to be at the top of the leader board. I do have to say that I was a little surprised that Durant and Love weren't considered or mentioned as possible sleepers based on the criteria that you were using past experience as an asset.

Well, I don't know if his back started flaring up or what, but he finished the week 73-78-71 after the 65.

Howell didn't show at all, and Monty, I thought, actually played pretty well; but Vijay ran the 2nd round score up so high (-9) that the cut line was +1. +1 is an awfully good score on that course. Monty went 72-71 (+3) and missed the cut. He's much improved though from the last few years; almost back to his former self.

"Guess the Sleepers" is always kind of tough because you're literally guessing. You can do homework and throw all the factors in; and at the end of the day it doesn't matter. So many factors are variable, first of which being weather; which played a huge part this week.

It is; but it happens to everyone (even Tiger) at least once.

Cink is a vey talented golfer and a quality Pro. I really expect him to put it behind him pretty quickly and move on.
