NFL Week 14: "Three Up/Three Down"

As we look at Week 14 matchups and consider those teams that maybe on the fantasy playoff "bubble", we offer you our "Three Up/Three Down" approach to which fantasy studs should sit and who should play.

“THREE UP”

QB ~ Derek Anderson: Facing one of the most disappointing defenses in the NFL, Derek will produce some serious fantasy points this week. Not playing him would be felony.

QB ~ Tony Romo: The sexy pick for second-half defense is the young and enigmatic Detriot Lions. This does not differ from any other year. Tony Romo will have a field day picking apart the Lions, showing why they are favored to win the NFC.

QB ~ Carson Palmer: Considered to be a fantasy disappointment, he will still supply consistent fantasy points and this week will be no different as the Bengals play host to one of the worst defenses in the league. St. Louis cannot stop anything this year and Carson will work over their secondary all day.

RB ~ Adrian Peterson: How can you not play this kid. He faces a 49ers defense that looked good before the first play of the season commenced but since then has shown that they are not ready to be an elite defense. Adrian should run up some serious fantasy points.

RB ~ Ryan Grant: For all those that say that Green Bay cannot run need to look at the last four weeks. Ryan Grant is getting it done. Expect him to put up healthy numbers against a poor run defense.

RB ~ Jamal Lewis: When any running back goes up against the Cleveland Browns, you simply play him. Lewis may not get as many yards as you want but you can expect him to get his goal line opportunities to punch it in for six at least twice.

WR ~ Braylon Edwards: He is simply getting it done and with Anderson at the helm and the Jets poor defense, you can expect Braylon to put together quite a highlight reel today.

WR ~ Terrell Owens: Let’s face it, love’em or hate’em, he gets it done. Detroit’s secondary will be no match for Terrell even if he has his traditional two to three drops.

WR ~ Andre Johnson: The team is back and the Matt Schaub/Andre Johnson connection is ready to deliver again. Andre put up 116 yards against a tough Tennessee D/ST and should have equal numbers against a savvy Tampa Bay D/ST.

TE ~ Heath Miller: With Santonio Holmes back and snow expected in the forecast, this is going to be tough, “grind-it-out” type of game. Expect the Steelers to run the ball early and often, using short passes to keep the defense honest. With an aging linebacker corp. (including the loss of Roosevelt Colvin), New England will have a tough time keeping Miller in check.

TE ~ Kellen Winslow: Why wouldn’t you play Kellen. He is facing the Jets D/ST and the offense has been explosive all season. He should see plenty of opportunities today.

TE ~ Jason Witten: The Lions D/ST will have their hands full with the tandem of running backs (Marion Barber, Julius Jones), wide receiving corp. (Terrell Owens, Patrick Crayton), leaving Jason to capitalize the potent offensive once more.

  “THREE DOWN”

QB ~ Drew Brees: With Reggie Bush and Deuce McCallister on the shelf, it is Aaron Stecker time which means that Atlanta Falcons have a great chance to win. Drew has not been able to shoulder the load when the offense was slacking; this week will be no different. The wide receiving corp. is simply not fast enough to break away from defenders.

QB ~ Eli Manning: He is talented, but injuries have hurt this team all around. The Eagles made short work of the New England Patriots offensive line and put Tom Brady on his backside early and often. Manning is not Brady and will be exposed all day long.

QB ~ Jay Cutler: The return of Travis Henry and Javon Walker should be good news for Cutler but it will not be enough. The Chiefs defense is better than people think and will keep Cutler in check, limiting his fatnasy impact. He may have an average game, but nothing that will make you want to start him.

RB ~ Kevin Jones: Detroit is on the decline and Jon Kitna took one to many concussions to the head this year, demonstrated through his willingness to yammer with Terrance Newman. Kevin Jones will be simply swallowed up this week and likely will not see more than 60 yards.

RB ~ LenDale White: Tennessee maybe pushing for a playoff spot but it will be because of Vince Young and not the running game. White and Titans have been up and down with their run game. My opinion is that this game is won in the air, if at all.

RB ~ Shaun Alexander: So they say he is health but does that really matter? He has been ineffective all season, it should not change as the Seahawks take to the air to try and win. The offensive line is “patchwork” at best. Expect him to see most of the touches Sunday, but Maurice Morris will have more fantasy points when the day is done.

WR ~ Plaxico Burress: “Plastic”-O will not be worth starting this week as the offense as a whole his “bit the bullet”. Eli has lost his bearing, maybe even his marbles.

WR ~ Lee Evans: He is an exceptional wide receiver with break-away speed, excellent route-running, and great ability to read defenses. Unfortunately, his offense is a little lack-luster in all these areas. Miami’s secondary is the only bright spot on an “0 – season” team. Roscoe Parrish will have a better statistical day.

TE ~ Jeremy Shockey: I have the major offensive players for Cleveland in the “Three Up” and every major offensive player for the Giants in the “Three Down”, Shockey is no exception. You will have better like with a Tony Scheffler or Vernon Davis this week than Jeremy.

TE ~ Antonio Gates: Expect the Titans to put extreme pressure on Philip Rivers, giving the secondary better chances for a turnover. If there is one linebacker that you can count on to give Gates trouble, Keith Bullock is definitely one of them. Gates will be stumped this week, fantasy-wise.

TE ~ Dallas Clark: Baltimore is jacked up and ready to destroy anyone in their path. This is unfortunate news for the Colts. The Ravens defense got a burst of confidence as they nearly beat the Patriots (some feel they did, they just didn’t beat the officials). Dallas Clark will fall prey to a hungry defense.

There it is folks, this weeks approach to the starte’em and sit’em with you playoff hopefuls in mind.
