I have a soft spot in my heart for the Point Guards, mainly because it
was my position in High School (and pick-up games). Often
underappreciated for what they actually do on the floor; if you don't have a
legit guy who can both run and control your offense, as well as sparkplug that
offense if need be with offensive output, your team is going to have
problems. This week presents three big names, which for whatever reason
haven't spent very much time in the top three this season.
Gold
Steve Nash - PG - Phoenix
Suns - It appears that Nash has broken out of his shooting slump finally,
and has returned to "Top Performances" form. This past week for
Nash: 22.3 pts, 3.3 reb, 12.3 asst against 3.7 turn/game, 1.7 stl and shot
57.9% FG and 100% FT, and made 4.3 3-pt/game at 45.5%. This is the Nash
we're all used to having on a nightly basis.
Silver
Jason Kidd - PG - Dallas
Mavericks - Nash's former teammate seems to have gotten it together this
week, at least on the defensive end. These aren't quite the numbers
offensively that we're used to, but defensively this performance will do.
Kidd's past week: 13.8 pts, 7.5 reb, 10.8 asst against 2.5 turn/game, 3.0 asst,
0.5 blk and shot 45.9% FG and 100% FT, making 1.8 3-pt/game at 66.7%.
Bronze
Deron Williams - PG - Utah
Jazz - Williams continued his fantastic play on the season this
week. He continues to be the catalyst which makes the Jazz engine go, and
has helped to solidify the Jazz' spot in the playoffs. This past week for
Williams: 15.5 pts, 3.3 reb, 13.5 asst against 2.3 turn/game, 1.8 stl and shot
44.9% FG, 100% FT and made 1.8 3-pt game at 50.0%
For those who need totals instead of averages, Kidd bumps into first (4
games), Joe Johnson (PG/SG - Atlanta Hawks) moves into second (5 games) and
Deron Williams comes in third.
