Trades have made a huge impact on power forwards this week. Jason Kidd went to Dallas, Shaquille O'Neal went to Phoenix, and Dwight Howard continues to roam in Orlando. Basketball is a team sport and this is the perfect example as to how a skilled player makes a good player that much better. The power forwards for this week have put up some monster numbers and should continue to produce like this for the rest of the season. Each chosen player completely deserved the honor as top power forwards of the week.
1.) Dirk Nowitzki (Power Forward - Dallas Mavericks) - He's back. Dirk is finally playing at an elite level again. It appears that bringing over Jason Kidd is exactly what Dirk needed. Before the All-Star break he was averaging 0.8 made three-pointers, after the break it's been 1.7. He is playing at a high level. Even when his shot is off he's hitting free throws left and right. Kidd seems to be one of the biggest factors for Dirk's turn around. His stat line for the week reads as follows:
4 games, .533 FG%, .842 FT%, 8 3PTM, 120 PTS, 34 REB, 11 AST, 3 STL, 5 BLK, and 9 TO.
He made over 50% of his FGs and helped out in just about every single category. Don't expect him to start slowing down. If anything, expect his numbers to increase a little more because of J-Kidd.
2.) Amare Stoudemire (Power Forward - Phoenix Suns) - It is hard to choose which trade was better and had the bigger impact: Jason Kidd or Shaquille O'Neal. Shaq told everyone he was going to take Amare under his wing and he did just that. Since Shaq joined the Suns Amare's numbers have been off the chart. Stoudemire has averaged 29.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2 blocks, .545 FG%, and .902 FT%. He has been playing spectacularly, especially this week, as his numbers below show:
4 games, .581 FG%, .900 FT%, 1 3PTM, 114 PTS, 35 REB, 9 AST, 1 STL, 6 BLK, and 8 TO.
There are no reasons for him to not keep this pace up. Shaq has had a huge impact on Amare, and this is only the beginning. Look for Amare's numbers to keep staying red hot.
3.) Rashard Lewis (Power Forward - Orlando Magic) - Lewis has hit a little rough patch in terms of FG%, but he's still been very solid this week. After the break he's been averaging a FG% of over 50% and around 53% from behind the arc. Most importantly this week is that he's been keeping his turnovers low, shooting three-pointers, and getting steals. Lewis is a top fantasy player and this week he definitely helped fantasy owners with his long range shot. His stats for the week are seen below:
4 games, .462 FG%, .769 FT%, 14 3PTM, 82 PTS, 26 REB, 8 AST, 7 STL, 3 BLK, and 3 TO.
His FG% has slumped a bit but he is still a top fantasy producer. He's the perfect compliment for Dwight Howard and with the way Howard has been playing the post lately, Lewis may even be able to rack up a few extra assists next week.
