Sky-high batting averages dominate the medalists this week for third basemen. These top three players could not make an out no matter how hard they tried. That generally benefited their teams, but it definitely benefited their fantasy owners. Those top three:
Gold
Aubrey Huff (Baltimore Orioles): Once again, the man without a position finds himself as a medalist among third basemen, this time as the gold-medal winner. This time, Huff did actually manage to start a few games at 3B. Overall, for the week, it didn't matter where Huff played because he raked wherever he played. Huff hit .478 for the week with two homers, seven RBI, five runs scored, and even stole a base. Huff has been one of the great comeback stories of the season, having already hit 30 HR on the season, and he very shortly will top 100 RBI as well.
Silver
Adrian Beltre (Seattle Mariners): We haven't seen Beltre's name much here around these parts, but he has had a decent fantasy season, hitting 23 HR with 69 RBI and 67 runs scored for a lousy Seattle team. This week, Beltre stepped up his game, hitting .440 with three HR and six RBI, to go along with six runs scored. Beltre may not normally give you the AVG, the RBI, or the R, but he put it all together this week.
Bronze
Ryan Zimmerman (Washington Nationals): Zimmerman has been somewhat of a disappointment this year, with his only recently having raised his average to the .280s and providing little power. Well, the average is still going up, and he continued to put up impressive post-All Star numbers. Zimmerman hit .440 for the week with a homer and four RBI, and he also scored six runs. He has lifted his post-All Star AVG to .318, and his August AVG to .320, making him an intriguing waiver-wire pickup for those in need of a 3B.
