It was a big week for third basemen, as they showed off their power in a big way, not necessarily in quantity, but rather in the quality of their power (meaning the clutch factor). Only one surprising name on this week's list, though he couldn't beat out the man who is always expected to be at the top of any list:
Gold
Alex Rodriguez (New York Yankees): A-Rod did it all: he hit for average (.375). He hit for power (two HR). He drove in big runs (total of four RBI). He scored big runs (four runs scored). He stole important bases (three steals). Overall, a fine week for A-Rod as he looks to bolster a Yankee lineup that seems to be waking up slowly, and his all-around week proved why he is still the consensus all-around #1 pick in fantasy baseball.
Silver
Aramis Ramirez (Chicago Cubs): Another stalwart who had the flair for the dramatic this week, Ramirez did well all week, hitting .280 with four HR, eight RBI, and four runs scored. Now sporting a .299 AVG with 14 HR and 53 RBI on the season, Ramirez is proving to be a tremendous offensive force for a Cubs team that needed his production this past weekend, and will need some continued consistency as they continue to strive for an NL pennant.
Bronze
Jose Bautista (Pittsburgh Pirates): Just say "when" after you have finished rubbing your eyes. No, it is no joke, Bautista really is on the list. Having hit only four HR coming into June, Bautista has already matched that total in June with more than a week to go, including three last week. He also added an outstanding .438 AVG, six RBI, and five R. That power surge put his total numbers for the year in respectable comparison with other top 3Bs in the league, making him a legitimate pickup option should the need arise.
