Some nice stories top the list of right fielders this week,
as the corner outfielder really showcased their talents. Pitchers simply could
not get RFs out in a week that saw 10 RF with 15 ABs or more hit .400 or
better. That made picking the top three difficult, but here they are:
Gold
Milton Bradley (Texas Rangers): The story in Texas is clearly Josh Hamilton, who has
established himself as a superstar against all odds, but how about Milton
Bradley? A former phenom who has always been a nice player, but never reached
superstar status because of injury and attitude problems. However, weeks like
this one should vault Bradley into superstardom. Bradley hit .478 with five HR,
nine RBI, 12 R, and four SB, numbers that are not only worthy of a first-round
selection, but perhaps the best overall selection. If Bradley has more weeks
like this, he could be the fantasy steal of the year.
Silver
J.D. Drew (Boston Red Sox):
Another pretty nice story, as Drew had often been vilified by the Boston
faithful in his first season there, but Drew looks a lot more comfortable this
year. Drew hit .500 for the week, adding three HR, seven RBI, nine R, and a
stolen base. As he attempts to pick up the slack in the lineup for the injured
David Ortiz., look in particular for his R and RBI numbers to rise as they did
this week.
Bronze
Jose Guillen (Kansas City Royals): Guillen got off to a horrible start this season, so
his big contract looked like an even bigger mistake. No longer. Guillen hit
.346 this week with three HR, 9 RBI, four R, and a SB. On Saturday, his
performance was particularly memorable: 3-4 with two HR (including a grand
slam) and seven RBI, and even a couple of outfield assists, if your league
counts fielding stats. Guillen is hitting for the power the Royals desperately
need, and makes for a nice option for fantasy owners looking for a little more
pop from their outfielders.
