There were a slew of good performances this week, and unfortunately,
by the numbers, there were a lot of "One start" weeks this week,
which will tend to skew things a bit. Check out the honorable mention at
the bottom of the page for some pitchers who had more than one start.
Let's take a look, however, at the top three.
Gold
Jered Weaver - SP - Los Angeles
Angels of Anaheim Home of the No Longer Mighty Ducks - Well honestly, who
knew? Put me in the camp that said Weaver would join his brother and former
Yankee Jeff in the "out of baseball" category. Weeks like this
will keep him out of that world for the foreseeable future. Here's what
he did: 12.1 IP, 1 W, 0 L, 13 Ks, with an ERA of 1.46 and a WHIP of 0.81.
Silver
Ryan Dempster - RP/SP - Chicago
Cubs - Dempster had a great start this week, further cementing his spot in
the Cubs' rotation. Here were the particulars for Dempster: 8.1 IP, 1 W,
0 L, 12 Ks, with a 0.00 ERA and a WHIP of 0.84.
Bronze
C.C. Sabathia - SP - Cleveland
Indians - Sabathia continued the month of rejuvenation theme that's gone
around the league with so many players. As bad as Sabathia was in April,
that's how good he's been in May, showing the form that made him Cy Young
caliber last year. Here was Sabathia's start this week: 9.0 IP, 1 W, 0 L,
11 Ks, with a 0.00 ERA and a WHIP of 0.78.
Honorable Mentions: Fausto Carmona (CLE), A.J. Burnett (TOR), Edinson
Volquez (CIN)
