A most unexpected surprise at the top of the list this week, as third
basemen continued to rake.
Gold
Kevin Youkilis (Boston Red Sox): Youkilis is known for having a
great eye, his ability to hit for average, and his good glove. He is very
much not known for his power, yet he hit more homers this week than Prince
Fielder has all season. Youk finished the week with a .393 AVG, 6 HR, 13
RBI, and he even threw in a SB for good measure. Note: I don't mind
listing Youkilis as a 3B, despite playing mostly 1B this season, because he has
played plenty of games at 3B this season.
Silver
Mike Lowell (Boston Red Sox): Maybe it is unfair to give both
the gold and silver to Red Sox players, but Youk and Lowell deserve them.
After missing some significant time due to injury, Lowell has picked up right
where he left off last season, finishing the week with a .364 AVG, three
homers, and nine RBI. With Lowell back in the mix, the Red Sox lineup is
complete again, and hopefully so is your fantasy lineup.
Bronze
Blake DeWitt (Los Angeles Dodgers): DeWitt has no business being
here, considering that he started the season behind Nomar Garciaparra and Andy
LaRoche on the depth chart, but injuries to those two have given DeWitt his
chance and he is running with it. DeWitt hit .458 for the week with six
runs scored, two homers, and five RBI, playing a major part in the Dodgers'
recent run of success.
