The almighty Dan Benton here, filling in for Kevin
"doesn't do Sunday's" Collazo.
I'll be hijacking MLB Buy ‘n Sell this evening for the first and
probably the last time. However, you won't
have to worry about me slacking - oh no.
I'll break down the performances of six MLB stars and offer up
several suggestions on who to buy and who, obviously, to sell.
Sell
Johan Santana (SP,
New York Mets): I can hear you
already: "this guy is insane!" But I
assure you, I am not insane - hear me out.
Santana has been solid and somewhat consistent this year, but he's
hardly the pitcher Mets fans expected when they acquired him this
offseason. Now, by no means am I
suggesting you release Santana outright; but what I am suggesting is that you
place him on the trading block. His value
is still sky-high and people will be willing to give an arm and a leg for him. So grab as many stars as you can, fill some
areas of need and continue to watch as Santana posts solid, but hardly
invaluable fantasy numbers.
Eric Gagne (RP, Milwaukee
Brewers): Yeah ... um. Hmm.
You know, my Mother always told me if I don't have anything nice to say,
don't say anything at all. And ... well, I
don't have anything nice to say. If you
are still holding out hope that Gagne will turn it around, give up. He's not going to and at this point, you're
wasting your time.
Andruw Jones (OF, Los
Angeles Dodgers): See above. Jones' amazing career seems to be coming to
an end, and his recent
outburst certainly isn't reassuring.
And while Joe Torre usually shows a lot of patience with his veteran
players, you know Juan Pierre is whispering in his ear with all sorts of empty promises.
Buy
Ryan Ludwick (OF, St.
Louis Cardinals): Most fantasy GM's
have been gobbling Ludwick up, but he's still available in nearly 10% of
fantasy leagues. If you're lucky enough
to be in one of those leagues, grab him now!
The kid was on fire last week and has shown no signs of slowing
down. And if he's already locked up in your
league, try offering Santana! Assuming,
of course, you have Santana stashed on your staff.
Melvin Mora (3B,
Baltimore Orioles): Mora may be a
bit of a risk, but his recent hot streak warrants more than a simple
glance. He's proven throughout his career
that he can be a quality hitter and perhaps he's reverting back to his old
ways. If worse comes to worse, you can
ride out his hot streak and stash him back on the bench ... or release him -
either or.
Darrell Rasner (SP,
New York Yankees): Don't look now,
but Ranser has been pitching quite well in place of Phillip Hughes, who will
likely be out for two more months. He
may not be a front-line type of starter and he may not strike out the park, but
Rasner will eat some inning and net some wins.
So if you're in a deep league and struggling with your staff, grab him
before he becomes a fantasy phenomenon.
That's all for now, but don't forget to thank me in the
coming weeks.
