MLB Top Weekly Performances – First Basemen

Fantasy first basemen showed up to play this week. There was a long list of players to choose, but the players listed below outperformed them all for the top honors. It is actually a good mesh of players if you think about it. Conor Jackson fills the role as the very young, yet productive player. Adrian Gonzalez is the guy who is a bit older, but hasn't even hit his prime. Then there is the aging veteran in Carlos Delgado; who would have thought he was capable of playing like this again? Each of these players went above and beyond this week and produced fantastic numbers. If you were lucky enough to own/start one of them then count your blessings. One tip for fantasy owners: If you own Adrian Gonzalez or Conor Jackson -- keep them.

Gold

1.) Adrian Gonzalez (1B - San Diego Padres):  What a week for Adrian! He is on fire this week and is playing like an All-Star. It seems like every game he's been in lately he's hit a long homerun. On top of that he's also been making contact in general. Last year he hit .282, which seemed pretty solid for him, but this year he's hitting closer to .300. It just seems like Gonzalez is hitting everything that's thrown at him. His stat line for the week is as follows: 8/24, 7 runs, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 0 SB, .333 AVG. His numbers were fantastic this week. He's still so young, but he's playing at an insanely high level right now.

Silver

2.) Conor Jackson (1B - Arizona Diamondbacks):  I won't lie. Conor Jackson is one of my favorite young players and I own him in several leagues. I try not to be bias, but I can't help it. Conor Jackson is the real deal. It seems like he's been on fire since the second week of the season. Plus, he doesn't seem to show any signs of slowing down. He's playing fantastic baseball, both offensively and defensively. His numbers for the week are as follows: 8/23, 5 runs, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 1 SB, .348 AVG. He is on fire and has great protection on an extremely young team. He has a very good chance of keeping this production going for the rest of the season.

Bronze

3.) Carlos Delgado (1B - New York Mets):  He's alive! (Insert evil laughter from Mets fans here). Before his breakout game this week he was batting under .200, but he's shown signs of life and now has respectable numbers across the board. He's flashed his power game, got his average back up for the week, and drove in a fair amount of runs. Very nice for a guy who most people thought was completely washed up; not that you could blame them, he was downright horrible. His stat line for the week is as follows: 6/18, 4 runs, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 0 SB, .333 AVG. Those are some great numbers, but it's a shame he's an idiot when it comes to the fans. Most players love to acknowledge the fans with curtain calls.
