MLB Top Weekly Performances - Third Basemen

Third basemen continue to hit well as the season ends its first month, though this week sees some new faces enter the mix. Third base is clearly the power position this year, so if you're not hitting at least three homers in a given week, you better be hitting .500 to make this list:

Gold

Aramix Ramirez (Chicago Cubs):  The Cubs have been waiting for Ramirez to wake up, and he picked a good week to do it. Ramirez was absolutely scorching, finishing the week with a .375 AVG, three home runs, and 12 RBI, along with six runs scored. With his hot week, Ramirez has brought his overall season numbers back up to respectable numbers.

Silver

Garret Atkins (Colorado Rockies):  Atkins is another 3B who got off to a somewhat slow start, hitting for a good AVG but lacking power. That changed with a four homer week, complemented by 10 RBI, five runs, and a .324 AVG. Atkins has been a steady 25-homer, 110-RBI force at 3B the last few years, so look for him to repeat that success as the season wears on.

Bronze

Edwin Encarnacion (Cincinnati Reds):  Encarnacion also got off to a slow start... to his career. This week, Encarnacion was on fire, hitting .375 with four homers, five RBI, and eight runs scored, not to mention a stolen base. While Encarnacion's home runs were generally of the solo variety, he scored plenty of runs to justify his spot as the third-best 3B in the league.
