2.12:  Sports Data Hub: Tony Romo (Dal)

-------------------

Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Pick:   With the 23rd overall pick, Bruno Boys Fantasy Football takes WR Larry Fitzgerald from the Arizona Cardinals.

Bargain: With the 17th pick, Bobby from Fantasy Sports Matrix was able to snag Larry Johnson (12th RB taken) and we feel that grabbing a RB that is a lock (barring injury) to get over 300 carries in the 2nd round could be a steal. We know the Kansas City Chiefs have a make shift offensive line and a suspect passing attack, but only a handful of running backs get 300 carries these days and Johnson should be able to capitalize on head coach Herm Edwards ball control style of play.

Even Money:  Outside of a few reaches, this round was pretty standard. Most teams did a good job of snagging the best player on the board in the 2nd round. Terrell Owens, Braylon Edwards, Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald are mainstays in the 2nd round of all standard scoring leagues, so they can't be considered bargain buys, instead they are even money. Peyton Manning getting drafted with the 14th pick in a 4 points per TD league is a bit of a reach, but his consistency prevents him from us deeming him overpaid. Though, if we have that pick we are targeting the likes of Maurice Jones-Drew, Ryan Grant or Johnson.

Overpaid:  The most interesting pick of the 2nd round was Yardbarker snagging Laurence Maroney with the 16th overall pick. In our  2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Cheat Sheets , Maroney ranks as the 17th best running back and we feel that he is a late 3rd round or early 4th round pick. Us Bruno Boys feel that Maroney will improve his touchdown total in 2008, but with Johnson, Grant and tons of talented wide receivers on the board, we would have went a different direction. Yardbarker could have waited until the 3rd round and Maroney might have been on the board for them to snag. Also, Tony Romo getting drafted at 24th overall was a big premature in this scoring format, but we understand Sports Data Hub's philosophy considering after picks 24 and 25, he won't have another pick until 48th overall. Fantasy Insider Online took Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown with the 20th pick, but in his defense our draft was before Brown lost his top spot on the depth chart to Ricky Williams. Still, with all the controversy surrounding Brown, he might have been better off targeting a safer pick in the 2nd round.

Trending Up: There wasn't a single player in this round who we can honestly say his stock is "rising". However, the three wide receivers taken at the bottom of the 2nd round are all primed to continue their quest into becoming the top fantasy football wide receivers. If you are sitting at the bottom half of the second round and the likes of Braylon Edwards, Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald are on the board, lick your chops and don't hesitate pulling the trigger on your top tier wide out.

2008 Fantasy Sports Matrix Draft - Round 3 Results

3.1:   Sports Data Hub: T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Cin)

3.2:   Bruno Boys Fantasy Football: Marques Colston (NO)

3.3:   RotoNation: Brandon Jacobs (NYG)
3.4:   RotoWire: Michael Turner (Atl)
3.5:   Fantasy Insider Online: Jamal Lewis (Cle)
3.6:   Fantasy Football Fools: Willie Parker (Pit)
3.7:   Kontend.com: Chad Johnson (Cin)
3.8:   FS Matrix-Bobby: Thomas Jones (NYJ)
3.9:   Yardbarker: Reggie Bush (NO)
3.10:  FS Matrix-Jim: Edgerrin James (Ari)
3.11:  RotoHog: Plaxico Burress (NYG)
3.12:  Mock Draft Central: Torry Holt (Stl)

-------------------

Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Pick:   With the 26th overall pick, Bruno Boys Fantasy Football takes WR Marques Colston from the New Orleans Saints.

Bargain: No we are not padding ourselves on our backs, but we feel that the pick of Marques Colston at #26 overall has great value. After a rough start to his '07 season, Colston finished last year with 98 receptions, 1,202 receiving yards and 11 TD's. Plus, he hauled in 28 receptions to go along with 5 TD's over the seasons final month. With the addition of Jeremy Shockey in the Big Easy, Colston will see more single coverage and should be a lock for a 100 reception season, making him receiver 1A on our squad alongside Andre Johnson. We also like Torry Holt, this isn't a PPR league (Holt excels in PPR leagues), but at pick #36, Mock Draft Central (MDC) gets a consistent option who will actually be his WR3. With their first two pick MDC took Reggie Wayne and Terrell Owens, so you can imagine that every week they will sport the best receivers in the league. However, there has already been 23 running backs taken, so MDC will struggle in that category. Perhaps they are looking to make a deal?
