Football is back!  The New York Giants will return to the field for the first time in real-game action since upsetting the then undefeated New England Patriots to win Super Bowl XLII.

I can't believe how fast this offseason has gone.  It feels like I was watching that final Tom Brady pass flutter through the air just yesterday.  But here we are ... it's week one of the preseason and games that count are only right around the corner.

For an idea of what to watch for tonight, check out Hazem's game preview.

Inactives:

Giants - Steve Smith, Plaxico Burress, Sam Madison, Craig Dahl, Gerris Wilkinson, Shane Olivea, Mario Manningham and David Tyree

Lions - Daniel Bullocks, Ernie Sims, Edwin Mulitalo, Cory Redding, Langston Moore, Shaun McDonald and Dan Campbell

Out of all the young guys, I am expecting big things from Kehl. He is my sleeper pick and I think he will be starting sometime this season.

I agree that I'm torn about it. On 1 hand, I freaking can't wait to watch some more games. But on the other hand it's going to piss me off if the Giants do bad at some point and ESPN starts talking about they're "not the Patriots" and that it was a fluke.

Oh well, it's part of the game. I'd love a repeat more than anything. Football time!!

Work was awful. It was the longest day ever. I'm so excited....

CSherm-- Actually, I think we should both prefer Moss go out and show some ability so that Reese might actually be able to get something for him.

First and foremost, hoping to come out healthy.

Second, hoping to see promising signs from the young guys.

Third, hoping to see some good things from Mathias Kiwanuka.

I'd like to see Clarke. If he's gonna take Wilkinson's job then he better show something. Blackburne should get his time and chance too...

Lol, you like adding e's to the end of our linebackers names? Lol jk

Yeah, watching Clark and Chase is also big tonight.. I still lean towards Blackburn, but we'll see if Clark is as stout against the run as he's expected to be

I must've missed it...has it been stated how long the starters will play? I'm assuming the usual 1 quarter or so??

Dan Benton said:

TonyNYG - I imagine it will be different for all of them.

Preseason game 1?  Manning/Jacobs and other big names may only see a single series.

Other starters like Kiwi may see a little more time.

T-minus 47 minutes and counting!

Hazem - Thanks for the info on the starters.  I didn't really know -- was taking a guess.

Where did you hear one quarter?  That (sadly) means there will be at least injury that has Giants fans up in arms after a single quarter.

I can see it now:

"Fire Coughlin!"  Haha.

I am watching it on NBC 4.

And the D looks pretty good up front, but they are getting beat on dumps/screens and a few secondary issues (missed tackles and poor coverage).

Jacobs appears to be out of the game (one series), Eli still in for his second series.

August 7, 2008 7:31 PM

Dan Benton said:

Here are some of the non-G101 comments on Eli already:

"Can't believe he's still the starter..."

"the playoffs were a mirage. Eli still sux....."

"Eli better realize the Giants drafted a QB.  His job is not safe."

Unreal.  Can't make this stuff up.

August 7, 2008 7:33 PM

Dan Benton said:

Here's another fun one:

"Eli sucks.  We should have drafted Roethlisberger."

All after a single drive in preseason game one.

August 7, 2008 7:34 PM

TonyNYG said:

is Eli off on the incompletions..recievers fault? or just good coverage?

August 7, 2008 7:36 PM

Dan Benton said:

TonyNYG - All of the above.

Jacobs dropped one (a tad high) and Ward dropped one (very catchable), but Eli hasn't looked sharp.  Almost threw an Int to a LBer who had loose coverage on Toomer.

The run game looks awesome though.

August 7, 2008 7:37 PM

Dan Benton said:

Manning gone after a series and a half (one quarter).

Boss is a beast!  He just took shots and kept going ala Jeremy Shockey.

August 7, 2008 7:39 PM

Dan Benton said:

Boss' run blocking has a ways to go.  He's not quite Shockey in that regard ... not yet anyway.

August 7, 2008 7:39 PM

NYGiants228 said:

Don't worry..  He will be fine.. This is his real game action since the superbowl..  Wright is in already

NYGiants228 said:

I think it was a 44 yarder.. but still  cmon Tynes

August 7, 2008 7:43 PM

Joser208 said:

from what it sounds like, I'm listening to the game, the recievers weren't helping eli out really.  It sounded like they were having trouble getting open so the only one eli could depend on was the running back.

Is that true or were the announcers just making it sounds like that?
